VERNON: American Woman (1979-1980) POLYDOR-PHONOGRAM During the early months of its appearance on the record market this LP quickly became one of the best selling albums. In fact it includes many captivating numbers such as “Bonny Bonny”, “When a child is born” (Soleado), and the signature song, “American Woman”. As the lead number “American Woman” earned Vernon many television appearances, most notably the live telecast to most of Europe of the FestivalBar grand finale at the historic Arena of Verona with over 200 million television viewers. Vernon was also a guest at the New Year’s Special from Asiago which was also televised throughout Europe. Polydor was very pleased with this LP and its success was much greater than expected as many numbers became standard repertory for radio and discotheque disc jockeys. After many years, Vernon’s evergreen interpretation of Bob Marley’s “Guava Jelly” is still played by DJs of radio stations in Europe and the Caribbean. Among the many noted musicians that worked for this LP, mention must be made of the famous percussionist Tullio De Piscopo. VERNON: Natalì (1978) FONIT CETRA INTERNATIONAL This is the disco version of Umberto Balsamo’s most famous song. Vernon’s single became popular with radios and discotheques in Italy and France. It was also noticed in Great Britain, while in Italy it was regularly aired by cable radio “Filodiffusione” for over ten years, well into the late 1980s. VERNON: You Forever (1976-77) (Arranger: Sergio Parisini) FONIT CETRA INTERNATIONAL This was undoubtedly the most commercially successful record Vernon did in Europe. It is the disco version of Tony Dallara’s exceedingly popular “Come prima”. It received tremendous exposure on radio, and RAI invited Vernon to sing his top ten hit on prime time shows such as “Teen” and “Piccolo Slam”. To this day, this song is still aired by Italian cable radio “Filodiffusione” on a daily basis. Vernon’s popularity earned him appearances on Tele Montecarlo, on the Italian-Swiss radio and television, and other prominent networks. Among the many impressive musicians working on this recording, mention must be made of percussionist Tullio De Piscopo.SIDE B: “Last Refrain” (Beryno, Specchia, Raggi).
