During the early months of its appearance on the record market this LP quickly became one of the best selling albums. In fact it includes many captivating numbers such as “Bonny Bonny”, “When a child is born” (Soleado), and the signature song, “American Woman”. As the lead number “American Woman” earned Vernon many television appearances, most notably the live telecast to most of Europe of the FestivalBar grand finale at the historic Arena of Verona with over 200 million television viewers. Vernon was also a guest at the New Year’s Special from Asiago which was also televised throughout Europe. Polydor was very pleased with this LP and its success was much greater than expected as many numbers became standard repertory for radio and discotheque disc jockeys. After many years, Vernon’s evergreen interpretation of Bob Marley’s “Guava Jelly” is still played by DJs of radio stations in Europe and the Caribbean. Among the many noted musicians that worked for this LP, mention must be made of the famous percussionist Tullio De Piscopo.
